USO OPERATION PHONE HOME®

To help deployed troops stay in touch with their loved ones, the USO initiated USO Operation Phone Home in March 2003.  With monetary donations from the public, the USO purchases bulk quantities of prepaid, international phone cards, which are distributed to deployed service members and are included in Operation USO Care Packages.

  • 100 percent of the funds collected from USO Operation Phone Home go toward the purchase and distribution of the cards. No minimum donation is required.  A donation of $5 purchases one 100-minute phone card. A $15 donation purchases one 300-minute phone card.
  • The USO has purchased phone cards from AT&T, which is a major supporter of the USO and the troops.  Although the cards are for 100 minutes, actual talk-time varies from country to country.
  • The phone cards are distributed in Care Packages and through overseas USO centers, which then distribute them to service members at their respective bases or military units.
  • Corporations and organizations making contributions of $25,000 or more to the program can have their logo branded on the cards.
  • To reach as many service members as possible, the USO also accepts individual requests for the cards from deployed military or their loved ones.
