Freedom is our birthright.Peace is our passion. These two ideals, so treasured by this nation, hang in a delicate balance. More of one demands less of the other. To hold that balance, it requires one person.A soldier, a sailor, a Marine, an airman, a Coast Guardsman. They are our sons and our daughters, our wives and our husbands. Our best and our brightest.
They are sworn by God to protect and defend this most cherished nation of ours. They will stand lonely vigil in foreign lands. They will walk in harms way. They will stare down any threat. They will conquer any foe. This is their duty, which they hold sacred and for which they will give their own lives.
And burning in their hearts, the heart of every man and woman who has so proudly served this country, is a singular, undeniable desire. To go home. To return to the embrace of everything they hold dear.To realize their dreams to be free, and at peace.
But for now, their dreams, their families and their futures have been set aside. For now, they have put our dreams, our families, our futures above their own.In light of this noble sacrifice, the USO was born. To fill this empty place in every heart, to touch their spirit, to comfort them, to remind them, to simply and heartfully thank them for the extraordinary gift they give us all.
And so, the USO will carry on. Wherever and whenever they go, until every brow is soothed and every hand is held.Until every song is sung and every battle won. Until every one comes home.
